Project Description

Aromatic coffee blend coming from small organic farming.

The most famous beverage in the world has a global story: the production process of coffee belongs to Central and South America, Africa and Asia where there are approximately 25 to 100 species of coffee plants. The most important species of coffee plants that are cultivated for drinking are the Arabica and Robusta. Coffee beans are obtained from the plant.

The aromatic coffee blend of the Organicity network comes from small organic farming. It means that the fertility of the soil is kept and enhanced with natural plant food and correct agronomic practices. There are two main varieties of coffee plants: Arabica and Robusta.

  • The beans of Arabica coffee plant are flat and elongated, and contain lower amounts of caffeine than the Robusta ones, which is why they have a delicate flavor and low acidity.
  • Robusta coffee beans contain higher levels of caffeine, which accounts for its harsh and bitter flavor. Although this quality is usually considered inferior to Arabica, Robusta coffee beans are valued in espressos because of their rich and deep flavor.

Nutritional properties

The results of a study published on the Korean Journal of Family Medicine in January 2016 suggest that “drinking coffee without sugar and cream at least three times daily has the greatest preventive effect on diabetes onset”.

BMC Cancer Journal evidences that “coffee consumption may reduce the total cancer incidence and it also has an inverse association with some type of cancers”.

A regular use of the beverage has some positive effects on the organism.

Coffee consists of several biological active compounds, such as caffeine, diterpenes, chlorogenic acids, and melanoidins, which may affect human health. The intake of each compound depends on the variety of coffee species, roasting degree, type of brewing method and serving size. The bioavailability and the distribution of each compound and its metabolites also contribute to coffee mechanisms of action. The health benefits of coffee consumption regarding cardiovascular system and metabolism mostly depend on its antioxidant compounds*.
